Tripe To Reclaim Its Great Name

The Tripe Marketing Board is to set up a Media Monitoring Unit in an attempt to challenge derogatory uses of the word 'tripe' by the press, radio and TV.

TMB Chief Executive, Mr Timothy Flaxton-Buoys announced the launch of the unit after reading a review of the film Hangover III by Daily Mail film critic Christopher Tookey.  Mr Tookey described the film as "The Hangover from hell" and said that "This tripe will turn your stomach."

Mr Flaxton-Buoys (right) was speaking at the 67th St Annes Film Festival last night, and said: "For too long we have sat back and watched the word 'tripe' being used in the media in a negative and derogatory manner.  With the help of a grant from East Lancashire Borough Council regeneration team, we are setting up a unit that will scour the media and issue immediate rebuttals."

Mr Tookey is no stranger to denigrating tripe.  In 2011, he described The Smurfs: 3D as "103 minutes of utter tripe."

"We know that neither Hangover III or The Smurfs: 3D are great films. But there's no need to compare them to tripe," said Mr Flaxton-Buoys,  "If Mr Tookey wants a benchmark for rubbish films, he could do worse than examine Dr Derek Ripley's fine book on the Lost Films of 20th Century Spatchcock."
